AWWA Waterworks Valves Manufacturer in Italy
Waterworks valve design places particular emphasis on reliable isolation, flow control, non-return protection and air management throughout water infrastructure. EuroValve Italia supplies AWWA-standard valve configurations for water transmission, treatment, distribution, wastewater and reclaimed-water systems, with construction selected according to the required function and applicable AWWA standard.
As an AWWA Waterworks Valves Manufacturer in Italy, EuroValve Italia offers gate, butterfly, check, air, plug and control valve configurations for above-ground and buried pipeline installations. Depending on the valve type, options include resilient or metal seating, flanged or mechanical-joint connections, manual or actuated operation, and corrosion-resistant internal and external coatings.
What are AWWA Waterworks Valves?
AWWA waterworks valves are valves designed or specified in accordance with standards published by the American Water Works Association for water and wastewater infrastructure.
Rather than describing one valve construction, the term covers several valve families with different operating functions. Gate and butterfly valves provide pipeline isolation, check valves prevent reverse flow, air valves manage trapped air and vacuum conditions, while control valves regulate hydraulic conditions within the system. The applicable AWWA standard therefore depends on the valve type, construction and intended waterworks service.
Types of AWWA Waterworks Valves

|---|---|---|
| Resilient-Seated Gate Valve | Isolation of water transmission and distribution pipelines using a resilient-seated gate | AWWA C509, AWWA C515 |
| Metal-Seated Gate Valve | Pipeline isolation using metal-to-metal seating | AWWA C500 |
| Rubber-Seated Butterfly Valve | Quarter-turn isolation for water, wastewater and reclaimed-water pipelines | AWWA C504 |
| Large-Diameter Butterfly Valve | Isolation of large water transmission pipelines | AWWA C516 |

| Swing Check Valve | Prevention of reverse flow in water and wastewater pipelines | AWWA C508 |
| Double-Disc Swing Check Valve | Non-return protection using double-disc construction | AWWA C518 |
| Air Release / Air-Vacuum Valve | Release of accumulated air, large-volume air discharge and vacuum protection | AWWA C512 |

AWWA Gate, Butterfly and Check Valve Designs
AWWA gate valves include both metal-seated and resilient-seated constructions. AWWA C500 addresses metal-seated iron-body gate valves, while AWWA C509 and C515 cover resilient-seated gate valves for water-supply service. Depending on the construction, gate valves can be supplied with non-rising-stem or outside screw and yoke arrangements.
Rubber-seated butterfly valves are used for compact quarter-turn isolation in waterworks applications. AWWA C504 covers rubber-seated butterfly valves, while large-diameter and high-performance butterfly valve constructions are addressed separately under AWWA C516 and C519.
Check valves provide automatic non-return protection. AWWA C508 covers swing-check constructions used in water and wastewater systems, while AWWA C518 addresses double-disc swing-check valves.
Materials and Grades
Material selection for AWWA waterworks valves depends on the valve family, water quality, installation environment and corrosion-protection requirements. Ductile and cast iron are widely used for waterworks valve bodies, while carbon steel, stainless steel, resilient seating and protective coatings are used according to valve construction and service.
| Material Family | Relevant Materials & Grades |
|---|---|
| Ductile Iron | ASTM A536 Grades 65-45-12, 70-50-05; EN-GJS-400 and related ductile iron grades |
| Gray Cast Iron | ASTM A126 Class B and applicable cast-iron grades where permitted by valve design |
| Carbon Steel | ASTM A216 WCB and applicable fabricated carbon steel constructions |
| Stainless Steel | ASTM A351 CF8/CF8M; 304 and 316 stainless steel for applicable valve bodies and components |
| Stainless Steel Trim | 304, 316 and related stainless grades for stems, shafts and internal components |
| Resilient Seating | EPDM, NBR and other compatible elastomers selected according to water quality and service conditions |
| Protective Coatings | Fusion-Bonded Epoxy and other waterworks coating systems according to applicable specification |
Air Management and Hydraulic Control
Air valves perform a different function from isolation valves within a waterworks system. AWWA C512 covers air-release, air/vacuum and combination air valves used to release accumulated air, discharge larger volumes of air during pipeline filling and admit air during draining or vacuum conditions.
Pilot-operated control valves under AWWA C530 provide automatic hydraulic control for functions such as pressure regulation, level control and flow management. These valves are selected according to the required hydraulic function and system operating conditions rather than being treated as conventional manually operated isolation valves.
Applications and Industries
| Application | Typical Valve Requirement |
|---|---|
| Water Transmission | Isolation and control of water transmission mains |
| Municipal Water Distribution | Pipeline isolation, non-return protection and air management |
| Water Treatment Plants | Isolation and hydraulic control throughout treatment processes |
| Wastewater Systems | Valve constructions suitable for wastewater and solids-bearing service |
| Pumping Stations | Isolation, check valve protection, air management and hydraulic control |
| Reclaimed Water Networks | Isolation and control within treated-water distribution systems |
| Reservoirs & Storage Systems | Flow isolation and control at inlet, outlet and distribution connections |
| Desalination Water Networks | Water transmission and distribution using materials and coatings appropriate to the service |
Selecting AWWA Waterworks Valves
Selection should begin with the required valve function and applicable AWWA standard. Pipeline size, working pressure, water quality, installation position, flow conditions, connection type, seating arrangement, operating method and corrosion protection should then be considered.
For buried water mains, accessibility and operating method are particularly important. Large transmission pipelines may require geared or powered operation, while check, air and control valves should be sized according to their hydraulic function rather than simply matching the nominal pipeline diameter.
For technical selection or quotation, provide the valve type, pipeline size, working pressure, fluid, applicable AWWA standard, connection requirements, installation arrangement, coating requirements and preferred operation or actuation.
